This is a 2011 trek Madone 4.5. Got it for $500. This was around $2500 out the door when new. It fits my wife, daughter, and son. I guess they will have to fight over who gets to ride it. We got it mainly for our teenage daughter for road riding.

Good deal! I always thought the frames on these were very shapely.
That spoke pattern looks a little weak though, hopefully you don’t potato chip a wheel upon hitting a pothole.

And here I am looking for $500 motorcycles for my daughters. My daughter is rocking a $40 Craigslist Trek MT220. Riding on the street is way too dangerous here.

And I thought Walmart bikes were a lot...

Those wheels are fine as long as you are not over 200 lbs

I think they could have gotten $800-1000 for it.

Honestly; Iv e had good experience with paired spoke wheels.

Wow; that is a phenomenal deal!

Treks are worth their weight in gold. I have some $800 or so mountain bike that I bought off a lady that was moving for $50. For that money, idk that it’s a “women’s bike”.

105 crank, ultegra derailleur, bont ranger seatpost and stem. Kind of a hodgepodge but a good one, and the reason it’s affordable. Great pickup. You going to get couples pedals for it?

Damn $500 for a used bicycle? $3000 for a new one? WTF? LOL CP
You could get a motorcycle for that price! That’s more than a lot of people spend on a car!

it’s all stock, I I think they put an ultegra derailleur on it, bontrager is treks stock brand so all that makes sense

Fair enough, I’m a bit of a heavyweight when it comes to cycling (~210 lbs) so I’m a bit paranoid about wheel strength.

Umm this is close to the cheapest bike in the fleet.

I thought a brand new bike was like $100

Sweet, looks like a session or remedy.

Yes, that’s how it all comes. The component choices are how they keep the price down. C lipless pedals are the one thing to add. Most stores leave simple block pedals on them.

They gave us a pair of look keo pedals but my daughter rides crank brothers, my wife uses speed play and I use shimano. So now I have a pair of useless looks.

Walmart bikes are the equivalent of a Yugo. Total piece of crap that does more to squash hopes and dreams than create new cyclists.

Well, there’s always CL or eBay if no one wants to switch cleats.

$100 gets you
a tire and some brake pads.

Good find. Watch out for those bontrager paired spoke wheelsets. I worked in a trek shop when those were sold and those rims are prone to stress fractures. it’s why trek only did the paired spoke wheel for one or two years.

Thanks! I think the wheels will be fine with the riders not exceeding 130 lbs or so. This bike is piratically
new, it has the original rear tire and it’s not even worn, like not worn at all... My guess is it has 500 miles max.
![]() 04/08/2019 at 17:53 |

Aye, sounds like it shouldn’t be a problem if you can maintain proper spoke tension. Hope they get lots of great miles out of it!

2014 Remedy 9 with a few fancier bits
